Jerry Aulenbach of Royal LePage Noralta Real Estate in Edmonton undertook his second annual Beards on Ice cross-country skating event this winter, raising more than $7,000 for the Royal LePage Shelter Foundation. Over the course of three months, Aulenbach visited 12 cities in six provinces to host skating events and celebratory dinners for participants.
“As I travelled from city to city, I had to overcome a number of logistical challenges in order to complete the tour, from snowstorms that made highway travel unsafe to unseasonably warm weather that affected ice conditions,” says Aulenbach. “It was tempting to get frustrated and discouraged, and then I put it all into perspective. The reason I am doing this is because I want to help support those who have to make unwanted major life changes due to domestic violence. Changing plans on my tour was easy and of little consequence.”
Beards on Ice has raised more than $18,000 to date.
