Barrie & District Association of Realtors to focus on community connections, affordable housing

Community connections and social responsibility, with a strong focus on affordable housing, is the focus of the 2017 Board of Directors of the Barrie & District Association of Realtors (BDAR).

“BDAR feels that community prosperity is based in large part on shelter and homeownership,” says 2017 president Rob Alexander. “As an organization BDAR will be focussing on affordable housing and helping first-time buyers understand how to get on the housing ladder. As part of this, BDAR is supporting Redwood Park Communities, a local organization that provides safe, affordable housing to vulnerable members of our community.”

He says another of BDAR’s main priorities will be to increase partnerships with local and provincial organizations and economic development innovators.

“Part of creating positive change in the community means that we need to strengthen connections within the region and province to help affect this change,” says Alexander. “Through strong partnerships, we will be able to move issues forward that will impact the real estate industry and will increase homeownership and quality of life in our community.”

In addition to Alexander, the 2017 Board of Directors includes Geoff Halford, president elect; Mike Douglas, past president; and directors Tania Artenosi, Lindsay Percy, Bill Forsyth, Sue MacIntyre, Brian Turner and Stephanie Maye.

The association recently presented donations to three community shelter-based organizations through the Realtors Care Foundation. The Door Youth Centre in Angus received $1,000; Barrie Out of the Cold was granted $4,000; and Redwood Park Communities received $1,000.
