Meet REM’s new editor

Hi, I’m new around here. I’ve been working quietly behind the scenes for the past few weeks, and I am happy to share the news that I am the new editor of Real Estate Magazine. I am thrilled about the opportunities this role brings.

I’ve worked as a journalist for more than a decade for major news networks in two of Canada’s largest cities. I have learned from some of the brightest minds in the industry, covering countless elections and reporting on the evolving real estate landscape in this country.

Now, my perspective has shifted. I’m intent on covering the stories that matter to you, Canada’s real estate professionals. I am hyper-aware of the responsibility that comes with the job. REM has an outstanding reputation, and I will be a fierce guardian of that.

REM will continue its commitment to fair and balanced journalism and sharing stories from the community. News comes from across the country, from both the small town and the big city.

Contributions from the community are at the heart of REM. To our regular contributors, thank you for being so thoughtful with your words and putting the time and effort into your writing. We are always looking for original content from those in the industry. If you’ve been on the fence about writing for REM, this is your sign to go for it! We’ll release a style guide soon to make things easier for you. Please include your social media handles when submitting your work; we want to ensure you get the credit.

REM has always been a place for you to share your opinions, criticisms and concerns. Your insights often generate thoughtful discussion and sometimes move the needle. What’s on your mind? Put your thoughts into words and send them our way.

I am confident the real estate industry will innovate and evolve as we continue to face volatility in the housing market and economic uncertainty. REM will be at the forefront of these issues, reporting fairly and unbiasedly. I am also sure we’ll see more technology adoption, and you’ll read more stories on REM about data analytics and proptech, among many other important issues.

A massive thank you to REM’s new publisher, Andrew Fogliato, and former editor, Jim Adair. Both have been incredible resources as I navigate this new role. I also want to thank those I’ve already connected with in the industry. You have been so generous with your time and in sharing your knowledge.

If I’m not behind my computer screen, or enjoying Toronto’s east end with my dog Oscar, I’m probably at my family’s off-grid cabin in Northern Ontario (Camp, we call it). It’s an extraordinary place on the shores of Lake Superior that my dad built nearly 60 years. I love to travel, I’ve visited dozens of countries over the last ten years. My next stop is Australia to see my sister and her family.

Let’s connect. You can find me on TwitterFacebook and LinkedIn. If you have a pitch, want to contribute or say hi, my email inbox is always open.

I am so excited to begin this chapter with you.

Warmest regards,

Jordana Springgay
