Monarch Corporation purchased by Wimpey

Well-known Canadian home builder Monarch Corporation, which is currently celebrating its 90th anniversary, has become the Canadian division of the world’s fifth largest home builder, Taylor Wimpey plc.  This is the result of the merger of two of the largest United Kingdom home builders, Taylor Woodrow plc and George Wimpey plc.

Monarch President Brian Johnston, who is also current president of the Ontario Home Builder’s Association, says, “Monarch will be the Canadian brand of a renowned international company committed to continued leadership in quality residential construction in Canada. We expect to deliver about 1,000 homes and 500 high-rise condominiums in 2007.”

Johnston says the Canadian business “will benefit from greater financial resources and product offerings of this much larger company. We will continue to concentrate our efforts in the Greater Toronto Area, Ottawa, as well as in the Kitchener-Waterloo market.”

The current Canadian management team will stay in place.
