eXp Realty continues to attract top talent throughout Canada — including the teams of Justin Havre, David St. Jean, Christine Boisseau and Katrina Amurao.
In the same spirit, the brokerage brought on two new brokers and their teams last week.
Sophie Patera
Sophie Patera, most recently of Les Immeubles Melbourne Inc., is a Quebec broker who closed on $38 million in sales so far this year. She brings 12 agents and two full-time assistants with her.
When asked about her decision to join eXp, she says, “It didn’t take much to understand that this was perfect for us. We ‘packed’ our stuff and we’re ready to jump on the train with eXp Realty.”
Hybrid model works well
Patera feels that the hybrid model of eXp works well for her team, “keeping the team/family together and being able to do business myself while delegating all the back office of having an agency,’’ she comments.
“(Mathieu Arsenault) showed us the programs and what they would mean for us, and already it has been amazing! The support and communication are already beyond my expectation,’’ Patera says.
Chris Knighton
Chris Knighton, founder and team leader of Knighton Real Estate Advisors of Grimsby, Ontario, brings 14 agents and four full-time staff members. Knighton closed on $150 million in sales on 180 transactions over the past year.
He says it was “the right time to leave Keller Williams for eXp Realty Canada.” This didn’t come immediately, though.
Making the transition
Moving to eXp wasn’t always the right decision for Knighton. “I’m not going to lie. The first time we were planning to make a move, eXp Canada was not situated in a manner that I felt comfortable moving our team into … it would have been a step back for us,” he recalls.
“Since then, the change and Canadian-centric growth (have been) phenomenal. Many different people have reached out to us over the years, and we were very close to making the move in 2021, but the timing for us wasn’t right.”
Knighton says that now, however, he’s seen a shift in the growth and potential of eXp Canada.
As for what excites him most about the move, he shares, “Ibrahim Hussein was pivotal … the stable of talent in his downline environment was what excited me most. Collaborating with some of the highest levels of producers in the industry will elevate our game and allow us to grow to that next level.
This will be impactful for our business … not only for our team members but more importantly our clients.”
It’s full steam ahead for Knighton, who says he’s “excited to grow the business with the leadership team. They, along with the brokers of record that we have connected with, have gotten me extremely excited and passionate about the next phase … I am excited to help build our businesses and the eXp brand moving forward. I can see the trajectory in Canada for the future with massive growth and lots of opportunities,’’ he shares.
Why is this even news? Realtors switch brokerages all of the time… who cares!? $38M in sales with 12 agents as of December YTD IMO is not high production…. neither is $150M with 14 agents… thats an average of just shy of $11M per rep. Have you done an article talking about the various teams that have joined eXp for a few months, only to switch back to their original brokerage because of all of the issues? Ever done a deal with an eXp rep? It’s painful trying to do something as simple as getting a deposit to the listing brokerage when they’re representing the seller. SMH Real Estate Magazine.

RIght ? I don’t always get what’s important to some anymore. As to mediocre agents? They are everywhere and I don’t think it’s fair to associate them with a particular franchise.
