Re/Max recently introduced an online tool mapping residential properties to school catchment areas across Canada. The search tool allows users to view schools on the map, select a specific school, view properties within that school’s catchment area and match schools to a specific home address. The new feature is at remax.ca within the online search and mapping function.
“We’re excited about the Re/Max school mapping tool because it puts home buyers in the driver’s seat whether they are reviewing school options for a particular street address or looking for available properties in a specific school catchment area,” says Elton Ash, regional EVP, Re/Max of Western Canada.
A recent Re/Max survey conducted by Leger found most Canadian parents (84 per cent) want access to information on schools during their new home search. Millennials with children scored the highest in this category with 87 per cent saying they want easily accessible information as part of the property search process.
The Leger survey also found nearly four out of five (79 per cent) millennials with kids suggest proximity to preferred schools is “an important factor” in the home buying decision.
“We know there are many factors that influence the decision to purchase a particular home, from proximity to work, to overall cost, neighbourhood culture and access to green space,” says Christopher Alexander, regional director, Re/Max Integra Ontario-Atlantic Canada. “The Re/Max/Leger study makes it clear that access to quality education is a critical factor in the residential home decision-making process for Canadians, especially for millennials and their growing families.”
