Catch the Gold Ring

By Heino Molls

Sadie Moranis is the founder of well-known Toronto-area real
estate brokerage, Prudential Sadie Moranis Realty. She has done well in the
real estate business over the years.

Sadie was not the first woman to go into the real estate
business, but she was one of the first to be this successful. She was the first
woman to be elected president of the Toronto Real Estate Board.  Now she has done something that too few other
Realtors have done following a long and successful career.

Sadie has written a book.

Catch the Gold Ring
is a charming read. It is Sadie’s story. At just over 100 pages it is straight
to the point, not arduous or grinding. If you pick up this book, and I urge you
to do so, you’ll find it a marvelous weekend or Saturday read that is
entertaining, informative, motivating and endearing.

This is not a yarn that is spun about a wide-eyed young girl
who couldn’t wait to enter the real estate industry fresh out of university,
and then immediately became successful due to wonderful easy deals that were
thrown at her feet.

This is a story about a woman who didn’t need to work when
she was young and enjoyed a great lifestyle with a husband who was a successful
businessman for many years. Then abruptly at the age of 37, with two young kids
at home, she had to go out and find work. It’s a compelling tale of what she
went through learning about a business that was not her first choice of what to
do as a career or in life.

Reading this book leaves one with a perspective of people
who are driven to succeed. It is Sadie’s perspective. You may not agree with it
but you will get a first hand view of what Sadie did and what she has been
through in her life to achieve success.

Sadie lavishes credit on her family, her children, her
husband and the inspiration she received from her parents, in particular her
father. Sadie speaks of her family in a disarming way that genuinely reflects
her belief that family is critical to success, not just in real estate but in
every business.

Notwithstanding the importance of family, Sadie describes
the elements necessary to achieve success in real estate. For this alone the
book is well worth buying.

Along the way Sadie relates touching stories about the
personal experiences and challenges that she went through in the years of
striving to be the best she could be in the industry, which turned out to be
very successful.

One that stood out for me was her recounting of an evening
when she had to leave the kids in the car outside while she was inside a house
working on closing a deal. She wrote of how long the evening was and how many
times she dashed out of the house to check on the kids. This story especially
touched my heart. How easily we could all criticize Sadie for leaving the kids
in the car. But I can tell you there isn't a working stiff in this world with
children they love desperately, who wouldn’t understand the reality of that
situation and the conundrum Sadie must have been in to get that deal done.

If I had seen Sadie on the street five minutes after I read
that part of the book, I would have picked her up and hugged her.

Sadie writes about her life from Sunderland,
Ont., where she was born, through her career in real estate today. Sadie has
had some challenges and tells you how she dealt with them. It is a candid story
of her life and her business.

She describes views on how to be successful in real estate.
Anyone from a rookie in the industry to a long-time veteran will enjoy this
book.
