Yes, Realtors can make a difference and have their voices heard.
Mike Grenby, a columnist and independent personal financial advisor, writes a column for our weekly Sunday paper in Regina. In a recent article he talked about buying a home and stated, “The agents – they work for the seller, not for you. It’s ‘buyer beware.’”
Well, that comment bothered me. We’re always trying to work on our professional image and comments like this do not sit well with me. So I shared this article with a co-worker of mine, Lorrie Howe, and we both emailed Mr. Grenby and told him about our agency rules in Saskatchewan that we have been following since 1995.
In a follow-up article by Mr. Grenby, he mentioned that both Lorrie and I took him to task for his buyer beware comments previously.
He even quoted my email: “We work under agency – buyers agency, sellers agency and limited dual agency.”
This just shows that we shouldn’t stand by quietly if we hear or see something about our great profession that is misleading the public.
I’m proud to be a Realtor and want people to know that.
