I am more than a bit amused and possibly confused as to what all the fuss is about concerning this issue.
By delaying listing information to assist these buyers’ agents, members of the public will quickly learn that mls.ca is NOT the site to get the timely information they seek. A quick Google search will then lead them to realtylink.org, which has no such restrictions. Here in the Vancouver Board, many companies and members have agreed to broker reciprocity so ANY listings can be pulled into an individual member’s site, regardless of who actually listed it.
Make mls.ca a user-pay site? This will really speed up the demise of the site when free alternatives are a mouse click away.
These concerned buyers agents need to get a website and start using broker reciprocity to their advantage. This way, they can have MY listing appear on THEIR site and have their buyer call them!
It’s almost like worrying that their buyer might call me on my newspaper ad for information about my new listing. Many do but then tell me they are working with their own agent. No one has asked me to delay my newspaper ads so that they can call their buyer first. A bit too much paranoia I believe. If your buyer has so little loyalty that they will jump ship to someone else due to an Internet listing, you are likely going to lose them anyway.
Do we really want to lower the quality and value of mls.ca in the minds of the public?
