RE: FINTRAC fines brokerage $27,000

When I saw the headline I thought with relish that maybe some druggie had been caught – meanwhile it’s a fine by a bunch of tax paid bureaucrats for non-compliance with their rules. Not that drug and terrorist offences are not serious, but why on earth do brokerages have to enforce these rules? My sympathy is with the broker in question.

I became an agent to help people to buy and sell homes. If I had wanted to be in law enforcement I would have become a policeman. If anybody should be taking care of these issues, I think a lawyer at closing time might be better placed to investigate and enforce compliance by buyers and sellers.

Where are our governing bodies when we get charged with these idiot responsibilities? They should be fighting on our behalf when we get charged with doing these things. Our time is also money. The enforcement officers don’t work for free, why should we?

Last but not least, if the immigration agencies didn’t let money laundering crooks and drug dealers into the country, the whole exercise would be redundant. Every time immigration officials fail in their duties I suggest the individuals concerned get fined $27,000.

Also, whipping boys that we are for the Monopolies Commission, perhaps they might be better advised to check the disgusting monopoly that is the Liquor Licensing Board of Ontario.
