REM’s recent habit of highlighting a Realtor’s avocation or hobby on the front page is a useful reminder to us that we all need an interesting pursuit in life unrelated to real estate if we are to live healthy lives.
 
Interesting as such pieces may be, they can also be seen as a disservice to those who practice real estate brokerage as a profession rather than just another sales job. Our professional training encourages Realtors to assume the role of trusted advisor to clients in one of life’s largest and most important financial decisions. With all due respect to Mr. Sercan and others similarly featured, this image is hardly enhanced by prominent pieces depicting our profession as just one of several jobs or businesses in which one may simultaneously engage.
 
I urge you to consider, for future issues of your fine publication, front page articles that more favourably present the substantial side of what Realtors do.
