Realtors Collette Burke and David Herman have found a way to blend their successful careers with their dedication to giving back to the community. 

The married couple has made a historic donation to the Fraser Valley Realtors Charitable Foundation (FVRCF), setting an example for their colleagues to support at-risk youth in the Fraser Valley. 

The FVRCF was established by five former Fraser Valley Real Estate Board (FVREB) presidents and not only compelled Herman to volunteer as director but inspired the couple to make the first donation to the foundation.

As a granting foundation, the FVRCF issues grants to local charities working directly with at-risk youth and young adults in the communities FVREB serves.

Balancing work and family

Burke and Herman are proud parents to four sons and grandparents to four grandchildren. They say the flexibility of their real estate profession has allowed them to prioritize family, actively participating in their children’s and grandchildren’s school events and extracurricular activities. This ability to maintain a close-knit family while pursuing their careers is a testament to the advantages of working in real estate.

Recognizing the importance of giving back, the pair have embraced volunteerism throughout their careers. 

Supporting at-risk youth

Burke and Herman say their donation reflects their deep understanding of the challenges faced by vulnerable populations in the Fraser Valley. Poverty and homelessness are prevalent issues in the region, and the couple feels a strong drive to contribute in any way they can. By emphasizing the importance of this cause, the couple hopes to encourage their fellow realtors and FVREB members to join them in supporting the FVRCF.
