Avison Young Winnipeg participated in its Global Day of Giving by supporting Koats for Kids, a local United Way program.

Koats for Kids, which started in 1989, distributes thousands of pieces of outerwear every year from October to February. Organizers and volunteers spend hours sorting, washing and mending all the donated clothes and boots and filling the orders that are sent through schools, day cares and community programs. Koats for Kids distributes free winter gear – coat with matching scarf, hat and gloves – to children so they can stay warm on their way to school and when they play outside during Winnipeg’s cold winter.

Last year, generous Winnipeggers donated more than 30,000 gently used articles of winter wear. Some donated adult outerwear for refugee families who arrived with no winter protection.

This year, half of the Avison Young team helped sort and fill the orders and the other half delivered clothing and boots to different schools across the city.
