Saskatoon’s first annual Royal LePage Golf Tournament for Shelter raised $23,000 for the Royal LePage Shelter Foundation.
Funds raised will be divided between Saskatoon Interval House and the Saskatoon YWCA Crisis Shelter, two local organizations providing refuge to women and children escaping violence in their homes.
Golf committee members Lyndon Neher (Royal LePage Vidorra), Colette Gates (Royal LePage Saskatoon Real Estate), Alyss Gehl (Royal LePage Hallmark) and Lisa Poier (Royal LePage Hallmark) organized the inaugural fundraiser.
“Domestic violence continues to be a huge problem in Saskatchewan where rates of family violence are the highest of any province, and twice the national average,” says Norm Fisher, broker/owner of Royal LePage Vidorra. “In recent months three incidents involving intimate partners (or former intimate partners) have cost our province nine lives, most of them women and children. It’s our hope that continuing to raise funds and awareness for our local shelters will help more women and children find safety and a new beginning free from violence and abuse.”
